  • How are VITA volunteers qualified to file taxes on my behalf?
    Our VITA volunteers are certified by the IRS and have gone through extensive tax filing training. Each return is also overseen by a board member and reviewed by a separate volunteer to ensure there are no mistakes.
  • How can I make an appointment?
    To schedule an appointment, you can go on our Appointments page under Clients and choose an available date and time. We also take drop-ins up until 45 minutes from closing.
  • How long will getting my taxes filed take?
    Depending on how many forms you have, it could range from 45 minutes to more.
  • When should I expect to receive my refund?
    If you file with us, your return will usually be accepted or rejected within the same day. The IRS can take two weeks to a month to process and deposit your refund.
  • Where can I park?
    We do not validate for parking. The closest lots to the tax filing buildings are Lots 3, 9, 12, and 14. Below is an attached map of the parking lots and buildings.
  • What is the time commitment?
    Studying for the certification takes about 1-2 hours for each test. Once certified, you must sign up for 3 shifts as a volunteer, each shift being 2 hours.
  • What if I'm not an Economics/Economics and Accounting Major?
    We encourage everyone to join even if you're not majoring in Economics or Economics and Accounting! This is a great experience for everyone and all the necessary training is provided to you by us, so there's no need to worry.
